Marvel’s Runaways and Future Man Renewed by Hulu
Two Hulu shows with strong first seasons will be back for round two.
Following The Gifted being renewed by Fox last week, another Marvel property appears poised to get a second season as well. Hulu has announced that Marvel’s Runaways and their successful comedy Future Man will both be coming back in 2018.
Josh Hutcherson leads the comedic Future Man for Hulu. Hutcherson plays an underachieving janitor who is recruited to prevent humanities extinction. Hutcherson’s character, Josh Futturman, completes a seeming impossible video game known as Biotic Wars. Upon doing so, the game’s two main characters appear from within the game’s world to recruit Futturman to their aid.
Future Man has some big names behind it in Executive Producers Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg. The comedy duo also directed the first three episodes of the show’s first season. On Rotten Tomatoes, Future Man performed admirably as far as critics were concerned. Season One holds a overall fresh rating of 77%.
Runaways is brought to us by showrunners Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl) and Stephanie Savage. The show is based upon the Marvel comic by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona. It features a group of six teenagers who come to find out their parents are a criminal enterprise known as the Pride. The teens unite as the Runaways to put a stop to their parent’s misdeeds.
Runaways had a solid first season too which just concluded on Hulu. Much like Netflix, Hulu doesn’t disclose their viewership numbers. But the show did earn itself a 83% via Rotten Tomatoes reviews for Season One as a whole.
While the Fox produced The Gifted and Hulu backed Marvel’s Runaways are two continuing Marvel comic properties, the jury is still out as far as Marvel’s Inhumans goes. ABC hasn’t indicated one way or another whether the show will be green lit for a second season. However, with how badly the show was panned critically, it’s likely Marvel and ABC will send Lockjaw and his pals out to pasture.
