Hulu dropped a new teaser this afternoon for the upcoming season of The Handmaid’s Tale, and with it, a release date…and it looks like we won’t have to wait long to see what happens to Offred after she gets carried off in that black van. Season 2 premieres on Hulu on April 25th, and will take us beyond the end of Margaret Atwood’s classic dystopian novel.
The novel, if you haven’t read it, ends in much the same manner Season 1 did – with Offred uncertain if the black van will lead her to rescue or certain doom. The story is left purposefully open-ended, which begs the question: should the rest of the story be told? With Atwood herself involved in the production, I’m inclined to think so, and look forward to having some of these questions that I’ve held onto for so long finally answered.
It’s hard to glean any plot details from the trailer, but one thing it gets across is a pervasive feeling of repressed anger finally boiling over – which seems apt given our current political climate. At the end, we see the hashtag #ResistSister.
