The Innocents Trailer Shows Us Netflix’s Upcoming Shapeshifting Series

Netflix has dropped the latest The Innocents trailer today for their original upcoming series. And after 2 and a half minutes, I have no idea what the hell is going on.

The Innocents was created and written by the Hania Elkington and Simon Duric. The duo will also serve as executive producers on the show. The trailer jumps all over the place, and with the show being about shapeshifting, it’s really hard to tell what’s exactly happening and who is who. Here’s Netflix’s official synopsis to help:

“When teenagers Harry and June run away from their repressive families to be together, they’re derailed by an extraordinary discovery – June’s ability to shape-shift. As the star-crossed lovers struggle to control this strange new power, a mysterious professor reveals that June is not alone: there are more shifters out there like her, and he promises to cure June and reunite her with the mother who deserted her three years ago. But as their journey becomes increasingly fraught with danger, Harry and June’s love for each other is tested to breaking point and they’re faced with a choice: keep their innocent dream alive, or embrace that their lives have changed and risk everything.”

The show’s leads of Harry and June are played by Percelle Ascott and Sorcha Groundsell. Guy Pearce is also aboard and featured in today’s The Innocents trailer in the role of Halvorson. The overall feel of the show looks as though its striving to be a supernatural teen romance of sorts.

The Innocents definitely looks to put the romantic plot of the young teens Harry and June front and center. However, another major component of the new Netflix show looks to be June reuniting with her mother who – you guessed it – is a shapeshifter herself.

Other Executive Producers on the project are Elaine Pyke, Charlie Pattinson, and Willow Grylls from New Pictures. Farren Blackburn is credited as the director on 6 of the show’s upcoming 8 episodes. The Innocents will begin streaming on Netflix August 24th.
