Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover Event Announced for The CW Next Year

Last night saw the conclusion of The CW’s 2018 crossover event entitled Elseworlds. But it’s clear that the network is already looking toward its next superhero gathering – and it’s a big one. We’re getting a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event next year.

As the episode of Supergirl was wrapping up last night, Oliver Queen / Green Arrow receives a phone call from Kate Kane / Batwoman. She tells Queen that the villainous Dr. John Deegan is now an inmate of Arkham Asylum, however, he’s made a friend. The camera pans over to the next cell and we see the Psycho-Pirate. He then states that “worlds will live, worlds will die and nothing will be the same.” The scene cuts and then a teaser logo emerges confirming that in fall of 2019 comes DC and The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

The CW has been teasing a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event for years now. The pilot episode of The Flash teased us by mentioning the death of Barry Allen that was caused during the event. As the series progressed, we continually saw a newspaper appear mentioning the disappearance of Allen.

The showrunners of The Flash and Arrow have been hinting at a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event for years now. However, they’ve held steadfast in saying that the event wouldn’t make it to air until 2024 – should the various series continue to be greenlit for that long.

A the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event teaser announcement, it’s stated that the next big DC crossover for The CW will arrive in Fall of 2019. That’s five years sooner than originally suggested. 2024 was still being mentioned as recently as San Diego Comic Con 2017. So shenanigans on behalf of the showrunners was obviously in play.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event will likely include The CW’s entire library of DC characters. Expect DC’s Legend of Tomorrow to join in on the fun this go around. And the return of Supergirl, Flash, Green Arrow, Superman and Batwoman are a given. Hopefully the big event can live up to the hype when it hits television next year.
