Netflix’s Dark Crystal Prequel Cast is Absolutely Loaded

Netflix has announced their Dark Crystal prequel cast today. And the studio is apparently putting a ton of resources into the project, because the call sheet for the upcoming series is nothing short of amazing.

Fully entitled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the upcoming series is set a decade prior to the 1982 film. Louis Leterrier is attached to executive produce and direct. You likely know Leterrier for his directorial efforts on The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me.

The primary members of the Dark Crystal prequel cast are Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones fame. They’ll portray the trio of main Gelfling characters in Rian, Brea and Deet. But outside of this main trio, there are a ton of other big names attend to lend their voices as well. Here’s the breakdown:

Gelfling Characters:

  • Caitriona Balfe
  • Natalie Dormer
  • Helena Bonham-Carter
  • Harris Dickinson
  • Eddie Izzard
  • Theo James
  • Toby Jones
  • Shazad Latif
  • Gugu Mbatha-Raw
  • Mark Strong
  • Alicia Vikander

The Skeksis & Mystics:

  • Mark Hamill
  • Andy Samberg
  • Harvey Fierstein
  • Ralph Ineson
  • Jason Isaacs
  • Keegan-Michael Key
  • Ólafur Darri Ólafsson
  • Simon Pegg

Wow, right? The Dark Crystal prequel is loaded with some impressive talent. And here’s Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content, Cindy Holland, bragging about it:

“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects. I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”

We don’t know when exactly we’ll get to see the debut of The Dark Crystal prequel cast within the new series, only that it will be at some point in 2019. But we do know the 10 episode series centers on three Gelflings that discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power. The then set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world. We’ll have to wait for Netflix’s first trailer before we can gleam more.
