After purchasing Millarworld in 2017, Netflix and renowned comic creator, Mark Millar, began working on a slate of projects that would begin hitting the streaming service exclusively over the coming years. Some adaptations would be in the form of a series, and other films. Netflix confirmed at the time that the first series headed our way would the superhero tale, Jupiter’s Legacy. And now today, they’ve revealed the Jupiter’s Legacy cast.
The series is being helmed by showrunner and executive producer, Steven S. DeKnight. DeKnight is joined by the other executive producers of Mark Millar, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott, and Frank Quitely. Netflix confirmed that DeKnight will also write and direct the first episode of the upcoming series.
We now know who DeKnight’s Jupiter’s Legacy cast will be when he calls “action”. Netflix announced that Josh Duhamel will lead the series as Sheldon Sampson, aka The Utopian. The character “is the storied leader of the superhero team The Union. But times have changed, and he doesn’t understand the world we live in anymore. Or his own family.”
Ben Daniels will play Duhamel’s older brother, Walter Sampson, aka Brain-Wave. “A man of vast intellect and cunning who, unlike Sheldon, isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Or bloody.”
Duhamel’s wife in the series will be played by Leslie Bibb in the role of Grace Sampson, aka Lady Liberty. Described as “one of the most powerful heroes on the planet. She doesn’t always agree with Sheldon, but strives to balance his ideals with the reality of the modern, often violent, world they live in.”
The role of the duo’s daughter, Chloe Sampson, has been given to Elena Kampouris. “Rejecting everything her parents stand for, Chloe has forged her own hedonistic path far away from them. A path that threatens to go against everything her parents have sworn to protect.”
And finally, Andrew Horton rounds out the Sampson family as Brandon Sampson. “In training to assume the mantle of The Utopian and become the new leader of The Union, he struggles to live up to his father’s mythic legend.”
There are two other vital roles outside of those in the Sampson family. Mike Wade will play Fitz Small, aka The Flare, described as “the heart and soul of The Union. Despite suffering injuries that ended his career as a superhero, he continues to be one of the most valued members of the team. And is often the only thing holding them together in the face of an increasingly hostile world.”
And Matt Lanter is set to play George Hutchence, aka Skyfox. The character was Sheldon’s “closest friend and ally before turning against him and the rest of his teammates in The Union. Now considered the greatest supervillain in the world, George plots his revenge on the teammates he believes betrayed him.”
With the core Jupiter’s Legacy cast set, filming on DeKnight’s first episode will hopefully go into production soon. If we’re likely, we may get to see the exciting new series begin streaming on Netflix before the end of the year.
