Netflix confirmed today that production has begun on their upcoming Cursed show. The studio announced the complete Cursed cast as well. The series comes from an upcoming young-adult novel penned by comic’s legend Frank Miller and co-author Tom Wheeler.
Netflix describes their Cursed show as “a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of the young woman who would become the Lady of the Lake.” 13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford will lead the series as Nimue.
The studio revealed who will supporting Langford as the show’s other important players. The list includes Devon Terrell (Barry), Gustaf Skarsgård (Westworld, Vikings), Daniel Sharman (Fear the Walking Dead, Medici), Peter Mullan (Ozark), Lily Newmark (Pin Cushion), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The State, Our Girl), Sebastian Armesto (Poldark, Broadchurch), Emily Coates (Flack), Catherine Walker (Versailles, The Delinquent Season) and Billy Jenkins (The Crown, Holmes & Watson, Humans).
As for who’s behind the camera on the upcoming Cursed show, Zetna Fuentes, who previously worked with Netflix on Jessica Jones, will executive produce and direct the series’ first two episodes. While Miller and Wheeler will play a pivotal role in the show as well as showrunners and writers.
Teasing their upcoming project, Netflix states that their Cursed show will be a “a coming-of-age story with themes familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.” No release window has been established as of yet by the studio.
The companion novel being written by Miller and Wheeler is being publisher by Simon & Schuster with an expected publication date of fall 2019. Frank Miller handled the illustrations within the upcoming book as well.
It’s possible that Netflix will attempt to debut their Cursed show to coincide with the book release later this year. But it’s more likely we’ll get to see the television adaptation sometime early next year.
