Game of Thrones Season 8 Trailer Delivers All the Chills
After rolling out promotional images over the last few days, HBO has finally delivered the goods. The network has released the first full Game of Thrones Season 8 trailer. And it’s fantastic, by the Old Gods and the New.
The Game of Thrones Season 8 trailer begins with a battered and terrified Arya running through the halls of Winterfell. “I know death,” her voice echoes while dubbed overtop. “He’s got many faces” she continues as we witness a group of people headlined by Varys looking petrified while huddled within a hall.
Cut to Arya delivering the above lines. “I look forward to seeing this one” she utters with confidence while holding a blade of dragonglass. Dramatic music kicks in and we’re then transported to Euron Greyjoy’s fleet on the sea.
Bran is now speaking. The new Three-Eyed Raven states “Everything you did brought you to where you are now. Where you belong.” We’re treated to clips of Tormund, Beric and Dolorous Edd cautiously walking the halls. Bran speaking with a worried Sam. A smug Cersei alongside Qyburn with “The Mountain” standing behind her while still in the south.
Back to the north, we see Daenerys and Jon riding amongst the Unsullied as they enter Winterfell. Then footage of Sansa amazed atop a castle wall as Drogon and Rhaegal go soaring by. Jon is giving a pep-talk now. “Our enemy doesn’t tire. Doesn’t stop. Doesn’t feel.” he warns.
Things are beginning to climax now. There’s quick footage of Daenerys and Jon, Gendry, Missandei and Grey Worm kissing. Everyone is gearing up for something as Winterfell appears to be in a frenzy. Jaime is now speaking, “I promised to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise.” It sounds as though he’s saying goodbye to Cersei, who we also see around this point teary-eyed.
Then, a minute and a half into the intense proceedings, we get the money shot. The hodgepodge of allied armies are standing before the gates of Winterfell ready to defend. Podrick is there, Brienne, Jorah too, and I’m sure many more of note. They look into the darkness awaiting a view of their enemy – and it arrives. A pair of dead horse legs enter the scene. The White Walkers are here.
The first episode of the abbreviated six episode season arrives on HBO Sunday, April 14th. Feel free to dissect the Game of Thrones Season 8 trailer meticulously over the course of the next six weeks to help fill the immense void we all now have while waiting.
