Pennyworth Trailer Shows Us Alfred’s Origins
We first got wind of Pennyworth when Epix ordered the show to series back in May. In August, we heard that production was poised to get underway in November, with plans to have filming finished by June. Today, it appears as though all is on track over at Epix. The studio has released their first Pennyworth trailer, giving us a taste of what’s coming this summer.
The Pennyworth trailer is just a mere 17 second teaser. But it does provide a feel for the series that might help to quell those dismissing the Gotham spin-off entirely. There’s just a bunch of quick snippets from the period piece show’s London based setting.
There’s hardly any dialogue whatsoever in the footage. It concludes with the young Alfred Pennyworth, played by Jack Bannon turning around to face the back seat of the vehicle he’s driving. He extends his arm out for a handshake, introducing himself with “My name’s Alfred Pennyworth, by the way.”
You can only see a blurred side profile shot of the person that he’s speaking to. But it could very well be Thomas Wayne who is also set to be a major focus of the story and played by Ben Aldridge. Additional talent cast in the show are Paloma Faith, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Ryan Fletcher, Jason Flemyng, and Polly Walker.
Just as we don’t see too much in Pennyworth trailer, Epix’s plot summary is pretty bare as well. They state that the show “follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London.”
Bruno Heller, showrunner on Gotham, is helming Epix’s spin-off as well. Gotham is in the midst of its final season over on Fox. Hopefully, enough of its fan base will turn its attention over to Epix later this summer when Pennyworth begins.
