Westworld Season 3 Confirmed for 2020

In a recent interview with Deadline, Chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment Bob Greenblatt, and HBO’s President of Programming Casey Bloys, confirmed when fans will finally be traveling back to the wild west. They announced that Westworld Season 3 is coming next year.

An extensive wait between seasons is now standard for the show. It was previously stated by the series’ creative duo of Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan that Westworld Season 3 wouldn’t be here until 2020. Today’s confirmation from Greenblatt and Bloys just cements the next season’s positioning from the network’s point of view.

When speaking on Westworld Season 3 just before the series’ Season 2 premiere, Jonathan Nolan stated “We want you excited to come back after 18 months but that you haven’t been left hanging on the edge of a cliffhanger — that doesn’t really feel fair to the audience. It’s an ongoing conversation with our friends at HBO, and for us, with a show of this scope and scale, we’re not interested in doing the compromised version. We want the show to get bigger and bigger and more ambitious and this takes time. We want to take all the time we need to get it right.“

The show certainly appeared to take ambitious steps throughout Season 2 which culminated in the finale. Those that are caught up now know that Nolan and Joy will have a much larger playing field in which their characters can play.

Season 1 of Westworld premiered October 2016. Season 2 came 18 months later in April. If Nolan and Joy remain on pace with their year and a half production schedule, we should see Season 3 hit HBO right around October again.

Outside of the Westworld’s Season 3 confirmation, HBO also revealed a few other projects poised for a 2020 debut. Curb Your Enthusiasm will return for its 10th season next year. As will the 4th season of Insecure. The network also announced that the Domhnall Gleeson series Run will premiere in 2020 too.
