Netflix provided us with our first look at the new season of Black Mirror just last week, but they obviously know we’re quite intrigued for more. The studio has emerged to tease us even further by providing three individual Black Mirror Season 5 trailers, each focusing on an episode of their own.
The first of the Black Mirror Season 5 trailers is for the episode entitled, “Smithereens”. It teases a logline that reads “A cab driver with an agenda becomes the center of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.”
We don’t get much, but it focuses on the driver (Andrew Scott) who takes his patron (Damson Idris) hostage following a breakdown of sorts. Topher Grace appears at the end of the trailer, though it’s unclear what his role is within the plot.
The second of the Black Mirror Season 5 trailers is for the episode, “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too”. The story synopsis reads “A lonely teenager yearns to connect with her favorite pop star – whose charmed existence isn’t quite as rosy it appears…” The cast for this one is headlined by Miley Cyrus, with Angourie Rice and Madison Davenport along for the ride too. Cyrus also provides vocals for a character you should really see for yourself in the trailer.
The third episode of the new Black Mirror season is dubbed, “Striking Vipers”. The description is vague, saying “Two estranged college friends reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever.”
This episode stars Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff and Ludi Lin. Mackie and Beharie’s characters seem to be in a married that’s falling apart, as Mackie’s character appears to be preferring some sort of alternative reality.
We’ll see how these three new stories play out in just a couple of weeks. Black Mirror Season 5 premieres on Netflix June 5th.
