We reported a couple weeks ago that Supergirl was looking to cast someone in the role of Superman/Clark Kent as it moves to the CW this fall, and it appears that they have found their Man of Steel in Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin. He certainly looks the part; in some photos, he can even be seen rocking dark-rimmed glasses similar to the ones that Clark Kent is famous for.
As of right now, he is slated to appear in the first two episodes of Season 2, and it will be the first time in the series that we get to see his face, rather than glimpses of CG animated flight or just his boots (or cringe-worthy text messages, in a couple cases). It’s likely that he’ll have a recurring role on the series, although producers have stated that they want the spotlight to be on Supergirl. It is, after all, her show.

This will also be the first live-action television incarnation of Superman since Smallville ended in 2011. Rumors circulated that star Tom Welling was being considered for this role; whether substantiated or not, apparently producers have gone in a different direction. Their choice seems to be a worthy one, however, and it only continues Supergirl’s trend of superb casting.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisburg said in a statement:
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
