It looks like 1980s sci-fi is yet again the focus of another new TV series, as Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future is getting a reboot, which will be titled simply Phoenix Rising.
According to Deadline, the Captain Power reboot is currently in development by ex-Syfy execs Thomas Vitale and Craig Engler, who co-created and served as EP for Z Nation.
The original Captain Power series was set in the year 2147 and it revolved around Captain Jonathan Power, the son of the man who caused a devastating war against Overmind, artificial intelligence. Captain Power discovers a new type of battle armor that allows him and a small team of soldiers to take on the bionic armies of the New Order. In the teaser (above), you get a glimpse of the armor.
The original series starred Tim Dunigan as Captain Jonathan Power, who will be making his return in a new role.
The Phoenix Rising pilot episode has already been shot, and it includes writing by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, the duo who once wrote for Star Trek: Enterprise. The series will be making an appearance at San Diego Comic Con.
