Ever since the tiny easter egg we got in season one of Daredevil, fans have been eagerly waiting to see The Punisher make his debut in the show. Today, we finally got our first look at the classic superhero.
The photo comes to us from Entertainment Weekly, along with some more details about the second season. Unlike the slow reveal of Kingpin in the first season, The Punisher will be introduced from the very beginning. This should give us a chance to really compare the two vigilantes and their contrasting styles.
The Punisher has always been a divisive character with fans. Unlike most heroes, he carries guns and isn’t shy about murdering the criminals he finds. According to showrunner Doug Petrie, “Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves.”
John Bernthal (The Walking Dead), who is playing The Punisher, stated just how much pressure he has been feeling to make sure he portrays the character right. “People have been coming up to me on the streets of New York saying, ‘Do not mess this up,’” he says. “This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.”
We also will get a look at Daredevil’s old girlfriend, Elektra, this season. Based on the photo that was released as well today, she looks like she is being handled much better than her big screen counterpart.
For more on the second season of Daredevil keep coming back as we get closer to release.
