Fantasy manga Berserk is set to be released as a new anime series in 2016. NBC Universal released the first teaser video showing off the animation style and character designs of the new show.
Based on the teaser, it looks like the show will be using a 3D anime format that has been seen more and more lately in such shows as RWBY. While the style has seen mixed reviews from fans, it is nice to see that the show looks to be drawing much of its style straight from the pages of the Berserk manga.
The story revolved around Guts, a mercenary who is taken in by Griffith, the leader of the Band of the Hawk. The series centers around heavy themes such as isolation, or whether humanity is fundamentally good or evil.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first anime series to come from the manga. Back in 1997, Berserk had a 25 episode run that proved quite popular. While little is known about the story this new anime will tell, it will be interesting to see how the two differ.
Sadly the Berserk manga will be going on a break in the meantime. Currently on its 37th volume, the next chapter will be released in the summer of 2016. Afterwards, the series will continue with an irregular publishing schedule.
