Looking for another reason to finally sign up for Hulu Plus? Today, Hulu announced that it is finalizing plans for a pilot order of Citizen, a supernatural drama series from Alfonoso Gomez-Rejon, the director of Me and Earl and The Dying Girl.
In the announcement from Deadline, Citizen will be created, written, and produced by Gomez-Rejon , Josh Pate, and Nicholas Schutt. The show is described as a new spin on the classic hero origin story. It will blend magical realism and gritty vigilantism in a supernatural version of Los Angeles.
Citizen comes from the first-look deal between Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. To give you an idea of the quality you can expect, Anonymous Content has two movies that were nominated for a best picture Oscar, The Revenant and Spotlight. At the Golden Globes, The Revenant won best picture drama while the company’s series Mr. Robot won best drama series.
Along with Citizen, Hulu is also ordering a pilot of When the Street Lights Go On, based on the Black List feature script from writers Chris Hutton and Eddie O’Keefe. It will be a coming-of-age thriller about a small, suburban town. The town is rocked by the murder of a high school girl and her teacher in 1983.
With high quality content coming from streaming services like Hulu or Netflix, it is not surprising that so many people are looking to cut the cord this year. If you want to know how you can best survive ending your cable contract, we’ve got you covered.
