The upcoming action RPG from Dontnod Entertainment has apparently hit a bit of a road block. Their soon to be released vampire game, Vampyr, is being delayed into next year. But of course, the developer promises it’s for the best.

Oskar Guilbert, CEO of Dontnod Entertainment, jumped into the game’s Facebook blog to break the news. He stated the development team at Dontnod held hopes that as of “just a few weeks ago we would be able to release Vampyr this year.

They quickly realized that wasn’t a realistic plan. He explained that “a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.” Guilbert promised that said delay would allow the team “enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr‘s scope.”

The game is actually one that a ground swelling of fans are quite excited about. There really hasn’t been a big budget game in the vampire genre for quite a while. Let alone one in which you plan as the vampire himself – albeit a reluctant one.

Based in London during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, Vampyr puts you into the role of Dr. Jonathan Reid. Reid, who has recently been turned into a vampire, struggles with his new found reality. He is constantly at odds with his new inner desires as a vampire mixed with the Hippocratic Oath he took as a doctor. Often hating himself for what his needs as are vampire are forcing him to do.

However, players can actually make it through the entire game without killing innocent bystanders. Thus staying true to your Hippocratic Oath and making Reid a proud vampire doctor. But hey, where’s the fun in that?

Vampyr is now set to release Spring 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so we’ll be sure to update our list of the most anticipated games to reflect the change.
