Valve has announced that LG Electronics will be unveiling its first foray into VR at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) this week. According to the press release, the VR HMD (Head Mounted Display) prototype will be shown in Valve’s booth at the conference, and “the LG HMD prototype is designed to deliver a high fidelity, next generation VR experience.”
During the presentation of the headset, LG plans on “meeting with developers to collect feedback and impressions as part of its effort to define the first commercial units. Pricing, launch dates, and territories will be announced at a later date.”
No tech specs have been revealed either, other than that the system is wired and runs on a PC. So we’ll have to wait until the presentation itself later this week for more. Who knows how this will compete with the HTC Vive, but this is to be a part of the Steam VR tracking headset family.
Thus, the march towards making the perfect VR headset continues, but who will win this race? Microsoft wants to make AR holograms, Valve wants sink into the fine pixels of HD to provide the best and most expensive experience possible, whereas Sony is comprising affordability with lesser fidelity.
