Mario Kart 8: Battle Mode Is “Buttery-Smooth”

Straight from Gamers Global, comes some new footage of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch in all its modes. The most important features to take away from this are: the split screen for multiplayer and local play look great, the Battle Mode is much improved, and Germans have the weirdest phrasing. I kid you not, when describing the frame rate, they said it was “buttery-smooth” or “as smooth as butter,” however you’d like to phrase your translation.

Moving on, the split screens are extremely well organized, with the map in the middle, and large icons of you and the other players’ faces, each helpfully color-coded. As they said, the graphics are very smooth and don’t stutter one bit as they played with a total of four people on various controllers.

And what we all came here for, is the Battle Mode. First of all, the arena designs are much improved. It is no longer difficult to find or see each other this time, again with a helpful map and upgraded graphics. The balloons are still there if you wish to play that method, but the king of the hill mode was much more coherent and fun for Gamers Global.

Personally, I cannot wait to play this game on the Switch. It’s been far too long since I’ve played a Mario Kart game and this one seems like the perfect entry back into it.

What do you think of the improvements on the Battle Mode? Do you like how the split screens are organized? Let us know in the comments below!
