According to a recent technical update from Bandai Namco (via WCCF), Little Nightmares will be one of the few games that just barely take full advantage of the PS4 Pro’s hardware. The indie game is to run at a constant 1620P (for reference, 4K is 2160P) and 60FPS. Unfortunately, that frame rate will only be for 70% of the time, the rest dropping down to as low as 50FPS. On the regular PS4, Little Nightmares will be at a solid and stable 1080P and 30FPS.
Good news all around, in my opinion. A stable frame rate is far more important to me than meeting any 4K quota. However, for those that can tell the difference, it seems like dropping down to 50FPS isn’t nearly as bad as how other games like Rise of the Tomb Raider have run on the PS4 Pro.
Furthermore, Bandai Namco has announced that due to a partnership with Playdead, Tarsier studios’ Little Nightmares will be bundled with Inside for a limited time until May 12th. That means you can still get Inside two weeks after the game’s release on April 28th on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you can’t wait, however, you can pre-order Little Nightmares right now and will cost you about $19.99.
Little Nightmares is probably one of the most intriguing indie titles coming up this month, with its macabre themes and stop-motion like figures. The world of this little lighthouse is certainly a mystery as well, one I can’t wait to solve.
