The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance – A New Netflix Series

According to TVLine, the world of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal from 1982 will revived in a brand new Netflix series titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. It will be a prequel, set many years before the movie takes place, but there is no mention of the books The Dark Crystal: Creation Myths. With those books in mind, the rest of the summary becomes a little confusing, though no less plausible. Apparently three Gelflings found out the dark and supposedly secret of Skeksis’ power, and promptly set out to rally the citizens of their world against the cruelty.

The series is thus far set for 10 episodes, no word yet on if there will be more if it will be more of a mini series. Fans of the franchise will appreciate that Netflix had brought back the Jim Henson Company to complete this vision of a more coherent world that adults can be less creeped out by. Brian Froud’s art is certainly something to get used to, as his vision of the Dark Crystal isn’t all beautiful fairies in gossamer dresses.

Nonetheless, the series will be directed and executively produced by Louis Leterrier, who is known for his work on Now You See Me and The Incredible Hulk. According to CEO of the Jim Henson Company Lisa Henson, Leterrier is very passionate about the franchise and world of The Dark Crystal and is entirely focused on bringing the story to life in a way that new and old fans alike can enjoy.

There is no word yet on when The Age of Resistance will be released or who else is attached to the project.

What do you hope to see in a Dark Crystal series? Where do you think it will fall in the timeline? Will it have anything to do with the books? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
