According to a series of rumors, Deck Nine Games is working on a prequel to Life is Strange while Dontnod is working on the other Life is Strange game that’s also in the works.
Dontnod recently announced this project, though they also mentioned it will not appear at this year’s E3.
The rumors come in the form of a French news site GameKult, who found screenshots on Deck Nine’s website server before it was removed. These screenshots are clearly from the world of Life Is Strange, though not at all from the game we know.
More of these images were posted on Imgur, which include a string of both screenshots and artwork. Thus most of these might be concept art for the game, though again it is only a rumor.
Folks over at NeoGAF have claimed that this upcoming title will be announced at E3 this year, unlike Dontnod’s officially announced project. The prequel will allow the player to “explore the relationship between Chloe and Rachel.” As the post states, it will certainly be interesting to see how things were before the events of Life Is Strange took place.
This rumor ought to be taken with a large grain of salt, especially as it is not the original developers working on the game. Though it is possible that Square Enix ordered more games in the franchise and wishes them to come out in a timely manner. Thus requiring the work of more than one studio. However with such a narrative-heavy game, so reliant on the original writer’s work, it will be interesting to see how an entirely different studio manages the project.
As this is a series of rumors, there is no title for the Life Is Strange prequel, nor a release date. We’ll keep you posted.
