A trailer for The Punisher is finally here and it unfortunately doesn’t show much beyond Frank and a few potential co-stars or victims of his wrath. Though that doesn’t mean the trailer isn’t any less dark and violent.
We saw this version of Punisher as played by Jon Bernthal in the second season of Daredevil. Now he has his very own show with co-star Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. As the forth rendition of the part, Bernthal has a lot of legacy behind him. Dolph Lungren, Thomas Jane, and Ray Stevenson lie after him in movie form. Jane was my first introduction to The Punisher, admittedly it wasn’t a concept that gripped me at the time. Do you remember your first Punisher actor?
Bernthal has stated in an interview with Complex that he finds the role of Frank Castle to one of the most interesting, and scary. You have to “understand what would happen if somebody tore that love away from you,” and do the role justice at the same time. It’s not easy, but Bernthal plans on making the role real and making it his, it “sets you on fire inside, that’s exactly what you need to step towards.”
Those who will also be starring in The Punisher are the talents of Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Jason R Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, Paul Schulze as Bill Rawlins, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in a currently unknown role.
Hopefully all of these characters will make it to the end of the season, but as fans of The Punisher know well: revenge is a dish best served hot, with blood still dripping from the walls. The Red Wedding may have been one of the most shocking cinematic incidences in the last few years, but in terms of gore, it never could top what the Punisher accomplishes.
The Punisher releases on Netflix later this year.
