BioMutant Announcement Trailer

Players can use things like "mutations, bionic prosthetics, and weapons" to create the perfect warrior.

We don’t know too much about it, but THQ Nordic has announced a brand new IP, titled BioMutant. The trailer shows us quite an intriguing set of events. We see the main raccoon character waving his arm into a green mist. It doesn’t seem to be doing him any good, as he withdraws his hand and his fur falls away to turn into the skin of black and yellow frog. But the raccoon apparently doesn’t mind, so when he hears the rumbling in the distance, he hits the ground running.

The raccoon quickly encounters a large ogre-like fellow who tries to pash him with a large club. The raccoon dodges in time and counters with a strike of his own: splitting the club clean in half. The ogre isn’t phased, he pulls out his spiked wrecking ball and takes a mighty swing. The raccoon manages to hide in time to avoid the blow, but then ball starts ticking… and setting off red lights in the darkness around him. All we see is an expression of surprise before the trailer ends.

According to THQ Nordic, BioMutant is a game where the player can use things like “mutations, bionic prosthetics, and weapons” to create the perfect warrior. It seems you can choose from a variety of heroes, so the raccoon might not be the only option available. The combat, as described by THQ Nordic, is martial-arts themed with a touch of small weapons for flavor.

The world is post-apocalyptic and there does not seem to be limit on how you can explore it. The publisher lists “mechs, paragliders, balloons, mounts, jet skis, and more.” If nothing else, jet skis will probably be the most fun out of that list. Exactly what type of mounts will available was not made clear, but hopefully we’ll see more as Gamescom 2017 continues in Cologne this week.

BioMutant is set to release in 2018 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
