Call of Duty: WWII Headquarters Trailer
It seems to be an open space of these, if I dare call them this, mini-games.
Among the many Gamescom announcements comes a smaller one Activision about Call of Duty: WWII. This trailer unveils the mystery of what they meant about a social space for the multiplayer mode. We had supposed it would be a place where players could sell, trade, and organize teams. Turns out, it’s so much more than that.
They call it Headquarters and there seems to be a variety of practice ranges available here. Not only can you literally shoot on a range, but you can shoot down airplanes, or drop bombs.
It seems to be an open space of these, if I dare call them this, mini-games. You can compete in all of these apparent mini-games, in addition to a leaderboard for the 1v1 mode. This appears to be an obstacle course that the players go through trying to take the other one out first.
Another mode that we are shown a short clip of is capture the flag. It looks as if you can switch from first person view to a top down perspective. This allows you to see the map and all moving players. You can even fire in this mode and take down enemies.
It has not been made clear exactly how players will be able to socialize in this space or how the mini-games work within it. Especially if there is a great deal of bombing going on just for practice, it wouldn’t be very fair if these games would take out players who are just wandering about.
In addition, it appears that players can align themselves with different camps, able to win prizes for the team and show off the gear they’ve earned. Hopefully this isn’t too much like Destiny‘s version of clans and such, but we shall see come November.
If you’re enjoying the look of Headquarters so far, bear in mind that it will not be a part of the multiplayer beta that debuts starting August 25, 2017 for PS4 players, and September 1, 2017 for Xbox One. The beta is scheduled to end a few days later on September 4.
