Star Wars Battlefront II Single Player Trailer Has a Lot of Familiar Faces

Ignite the Inferno.

With news that EA has shut down Visceral Games and has decided to “refocus” Amy Hennig’s upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Battlefront II is likely the only single-player Star Wars outing we’ll be seeing for a while. And while we haven’t seen much of what Commander Iden Versio’s adventure holds, the snippets we’re seeing do look promising.

Today’s latest trailer from EA and EA DICE tease the scope of Versio’s story. We see the destruction of the second Death Star. Glimpses of “Emperor Bot”, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Maz Kanata and a quick glimpse of Kylo Ren as well. Each across a slew of locations from within the movie universe.

It seems as though Commander Versio may have had a personal relationship with the late Emperor Palpatine – aka Darth Sidious. Within today’s trailer there appears to be dialogue in the background that seems as though Palpatine is speaking directly to her. And it’s clear after she hears of his death and witnesses the destruction of the second Death Star that Iden is out for vengeance.

“We’ve been fighting our whole lives.”, she says. “Today the Rebellion dies. The Empire’s time has come.” Over her monologue, we see some glimpses of both air and ground combat. So we’re likely to see plenty of segments for both.

It’s also been previously stated that there will be portions of the single-player campaign that will put players in control of both Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren. So this isn’t exclusively an Iden Versio story.

I find it hard to believe that we’ll be playing as a “bad guy” for the entirety of Star Wars Battlefront II’s story though. It’s likely that as Versio makes her way through the 30 years storyline towards the events of The Force Awakens, she finds something in the narrative that causes a change of heart. Or maybe not – the First Order was in pretty good shape by the time that movie rolled around. Maybe Commander Versio was a big part of reconstructing the Emperor’s vision.

We’ll find out soon enough for ourselves. Star Wars Battlefront II launches on November 17th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
