Smoke and Sacrifice Releases This Month

Smoke and Sacrifice looks to be a pretty unique take on the RPG genre. The title features a hand-illustrated art style which gives it a look quite unlike other titles on the market. You can see how the game runs for yourself in the new trailer that Solar Sail Games and Curve Digital released today:

If you haven’t followed the development of Smoke and Sacrifice, Solar Sail describes the title as follows:

“Depicted in a beautiful, hand-drawn style, Smoke and Sacrifice’s storybook visuals belie its brutal story of motherhood and survival. Sachi doesn’t just have to worry about the game’s antagonists – the entire game world poses a threat. Players can alter the behavior of plant and animal life but this may also limit the resources Sachi has to craft items from. The deadly smoke also poses unique challenges throughout the game, altering enemy as well as player behavior.”

The developers state that their title “evolves” the RPG genre. Smoke and Sacrifice features a “deeply personal story and complex ecosystem. Creatures forage, mate, breed and prey on one another, creating a living world. Only by taming the game’s wilds can Sachi hope to unravel the mystery at the heart of Smoke and Sacrifice.”

To celebrate the release of their game on PC and Switch, it will launch with a 20% discount for its first two weeks on the market. Once the discount concludes, the title will revert to its standard pricing of $24.99. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are planned for later this year.

Though just revealed in February, Co-Founder of Solar Sail Games, Tancred Dyke-Wells, cited fan feedback as a valuable resource in development process:

“Player feedback since we revealed the game has been wonderful, at shows such as EGX Rezzed and GDC as well as online. We’ve been hard at work making this is the most narratively ambitious survival game yet, creating a beautiful, hostile world for the player to explore alongside a deep, robust crafting system.”

Smoke and Sacrifice launches for PC and Switch on May 31st. Hopefully the title’s gameplay blends with its impressive art style to deliver an RPG that’s memorable for years to come.
