The company describes their E3 Showcase 2018 as a “special video conference.” It’s possible that Square Enix’s presentation may be something akin to a Nintendo Direct. The event is scheduled for Monday, June 12th at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, 1:00 p.m. Eastern, and will be streamed in both English and Japanese.
Square didn’t provide any details other than when the showcase will be taking place. It’s easy to make a few assumptions as to what we can expect though. Shadow of the Tomb Raider will likely be heavily featured. Eidos Montréal has already promised that the first gameplay demo would be revealed during E3.
Octopath Traveler is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 13th. So it makes sense that Square Enix would utilize the E3 platform to generate a last round of buzz for the RPG. There’s also a shot that we see more from the Final Fantasy VII remake if we’re lucky.
We know that Life is Strange 2 has been in development at Dontnod Entertainment since early 2016. So the new cast for that series could be announced there. And the team at People Can Fly have a AAA game set to be published by Square Enix that we know nothing about at this point.
The biggest reveal of all could be our first look at the untitled Avengers game that Square Enix has Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal working on. Other than the fact that it exists, we know nothing about it. When Square Enix broke the news on the game in January 2017, they stated then that more details would be announced in 2018. Sounds like we’re due for more on #Reassemble.
It’s all speculation at this point until Square Enix gives us something more concrete to work with. And if they don’t, that will just make the publisher’s E3 Showcase all the more exciting.
