CI Games announced today that a 4th entry in the Sniper Ghost series is headed our way next year. The next iteration of the studio’s tactical shooter series is being branded as Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.
CI Games stated today that fan feedback was utilized for the features developed within newly announced title. Instead of an open world, Contracts will focus on mission-based gameplay. It sounds as though the team is targeting their design around something akin to the Hitman series.
Marek Tymiński, CEO of CI Games, explained that his team has been “really motivated and working hard on our next sniping game.” Tymiński and his crew were able to get a jump start and be much more efficient on development for Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, saying “They don’t have to start from scratch this time and can now – on top of developing new content – spend way more time on improving things they already have.”
The previous games in the series weren’t all that favorably reviewed when they launched. Sniper: Art of Victory earned a Metascore of 36 in 2008. Sniper: Ghost Warrior averaged a 55. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 a 52. And Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 a 59. CI’s CEO says the team has learned from their past mistakes, and are continuing to build upon that growth:
“We were too ambitious in terms of the scope of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, but we’ve learned from our missteps. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will be more focused on emergent gameplay with an open-ended mission design that the team feels strong about, but it will not be set in an open world. It is going to be a more tactical, more condensed experience and the game will offer plenty of replayability, both on the single player campaign and on the multiplayer modes.”
The studio didn’t release a teaser trailer to go along with today’s announcement. So we’ll have to take Tymiński at his word that Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts is progressing well. The sniping based tactical first-person shooter is headed to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019.
