Avengers Game E3 Appearance Confirmed

It’s been well over two years since Square Enix and Marvel announced that they two would be teaming up to create an Avengers game. At E3 2017 and E3 2018 fans sat through Square Enix’s slate of upcoming games, yet walked away disappointed that the project wasn’t unveiled. E3 2019 will hold no such disappointment, as the publisher confirmed that we’ll be getting the game’s worldwide reveal next month.

The 2017 trailer for the game’s announcement simply dubbed it as The Avengers Project. That name was likely a placeholder, as Square Enix clearly didn’t utilize it in the promotional image within their tweet above. At the time they were using #Reassemble to promote the game.

In the trailer for the Avengers game, we hear a woman state “They say the time of heroes is over. That if you’re different, you’re dangerous. But I know the truth. The world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble.” It’s unclear who that voice is, but we could theorize that one of the female Avengers members. Perhaps Black Widow, Scarlet Witch or Captain Marvel.

That now dated trailer does hint as to which male characters are included within the game though. It opens on a pair of broken glasses with the Hulk seemingly broken free from whatever containment unit he was in. We then see Thor’s hammer, Iron Man’s repulsors and Captain America’s shield.

We do know that both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal are codevlopming the game. But even though it was revealed in 2017, we don’t know how far along it actually is. It’s possible that Square Enix’s Avengers game will get a release window during its worldwide reveal at E3. But fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for anything within the next twelve months or so. Late next year to launch on both current and next-generation consoles could be entirely likely.

We’ll know in just a few weeks when Square Enix hits the E3 stage on Monday, June 10th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, 6:00 p.m. Pacific.
