Spider-Man PS4 was one of the biggest surprises during Sony’s E3 press conference. Since it’s reveal, we have found out quite a few more details.
In an interview during the Playstation E3 Show, Bill Rosemann of Marvel and Bryan Intihar of Insomniac spoke about the upcoming Spider-Man game. Luckily it seems like it will remain separate from next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. In fact, the game will focus on an older, more experienced web slinger.
“It’s standalone,” said Rosemann. “I think we’ve been inspired by all the different mediums that Marvel has, whether it’s film, animation, live-action, comic books, even t-shirts. So we’re looking at everything and we’re blending it all together. But it’s standalone; all new story, all new world. We’re always stretching, we’re always challenging, we’re always moving the characters forward.”
Intihar continued, “For me, it’s about respecting the traditions of the franchise but mixing things up.”
The interview goes on to talk about the Spider-Man/Peter Parker dynamic. According to Intihar, Spider-Man PS4 stars a Peter, “who’s been doing this for more than a couple of years; we want to make sure his fighting style reflects that,” Inthihar goes on to explain whether Peter or the web slinger is the main focus of the game. He said, “To us, Peter is as important as the Spider-Man character. Peter is a really smart guy. How does that tie into his life not just as Peter Parker but when he brings [his intelligence] to the fight?”
Spider-Man PS4 will mark the first licensed game that Insomniac has ever made in their 22 year history. If you’re a fan of Ratch & Clank or Sunset Overdrive, you can be pretty certain that this game will live up to that pedigree. We look forward to a fun, crazy adventure full of fun. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we get a release date.
