Overwatch PTR Disempowers Certain Characters

We might not be getting anymore holiday events for Overwatch, but it seems like Blizzard is hardly done with the game. The publishing company is beginning a public test before it releases the entire update to everyone. The update includes some major tweaks to certain characters and fix the issues with the Oasis map.

The test is critical for such significant balance changes, as the Public Test Region (PTR) is not just about changing it up for experienced players, but to make sure the changes are not unfair either. If all goes well, the update will coming to all version of the game very soon.

The major tweaks to certain characters include Ana, who’s healing boost on allies with her Biotic Grenade will be decreased by 50%. Developers note that “the healing boost from Ana’s Biotic Grenade was providing too much healing, especially when used on targets with large health pools.” D. Va’s armor is being reduced dramatically, but her health is bumped up to compensate. For this, the developers say that “D.Va’s armor often made her feel like she had no weaknesses, even against heroes that are often effective against bigger targets (like Reaper).”

Roadhog is also taking a hit, as players will no longer be able to hook enemies around corners. Sombra’s hack time is cut down as well, “the time it takes to hack a target has been decreased from 1 second to 0.8 seconds” as Sombra often had “difficulty hacking enemies, even when she surprised the target. This change should help her execute hacks more easily.”

The rest are general bug fixes to maps and sprinting glitches. Most significantly however is the addition of four emotes, sprays, and voice lines for each character, so players should get more mileage out of the items they earn from loot boxes.

The test is available for Windows PC only and the directions to join are here, including a long set of FAQ that detail the changes the update brings. How do you like these tweaks to the characters? Will you be a part of the PTR? Let us know in the comments below!
