In a surprising turn of events, Activision has revealed that not only is Destiny receiving another large expansion this year, but Destiny 2 will be coming in 2017.
While initially successful, the game didn’t quite reach everyone’s expectations until the release of its first major expansion, The Taken King. This fundamentally altered the game to better suit its fans. It also put much more effort into building a story players could actually grasp onto.
Since its initial release, Destiny has had 25 million players logging in more than 3 billion hours collectively.
As far as the expansion, it is expected to release sometime this spring, but we will have to wait to any information beyond that. As Bungie puts it, “We’ll be plotting more specific waypoints as time goes on. Right now, there are hundreds of passionate people at Bungie working to turn the plan for Destiny’s future into the adventures, dangerous enemies, and glittering treasures that await us. As soon as we’re ready, we’ll share the details with you in all the usual places. In the meantime, we’ll keep the conversation rolling with the team on the support front. We’re also gathering up details for spring as the team begins to lock it in.”
Hopefully this means we’ll here more about Destiny 2 at this year’s E3. Only time will tell for now.
