A Blood Meridian movie only proves that westerns are officially making a comeback. This one is set to star Russell Crowe with James Franco directing.
The live-action adaptation for Cormac McCarthy’s critically-acclaimed book has been in the works for a long time now. In addition to Crowe, the cast will also include Tye Sheridan and Vincent D’Onofrio. According to Deadline, Franco will also be joining the cast on top of directing.
Blood Meridian is based on true events that occurred along the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s. It follows the Kid, a 14-year-old boy from Tennessee. He stumbles in way over his head when a ends up with a gang of scalp-hunters, including the menacing Judge Holden.
Crowe has certainly been busy lately. Recently it was announced that he would be acting alongside Tom Cruise in Universal’s reboot of The Mummy. Additionally, he is starring in the upcoming Shane Black drama called The Nice Guys.
James Franco is often thought of for his comedic roles alongside Seth Rogen. If anyone has any doubts about his acting ability, we highly suggest you check out 127 Hours. While the movie largely focuses on one character, we doubt you’ll be able to look away. If you’re interested, you can find the movie here.
We are happy that westerns are coming back in such a big way. Hopefully the Blood Meridian movie has what it takes to become a modern classic for the genre.
