Sony announced on Twitter that Tom Hardy, known best for his role in The Revenant with Leonardo DiCarpio, will be starring as Eddie Brock in the upcoming film Venom. The film was going to be directed by Alex Kurtzman but it has not been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is in final negotiations to direct the film.
Not only that, we also have a confirmed release date of October 5, 2018. The script was written by Scott Rosenberg (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), though any more plot details have yet to be revealed. Eddie Brock is the most popular and mainstream depiction of Venom, so that detail is unsurprising. However exactly which Spider-Man will be saving the day has yet to be made clear.
Producing the movie are Avi Arad (Spider-Man from 2002), Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man from 2012), and Amy Pascal (the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming). As many have said before, Venom is one of the best and most popular of villains for Spider-Man due both to his very well designed appearance and shadowed coming and goings within the long running series. Venom is a villain that was built very slowly in the comics, becoming with tragic and pure evil as time went on and Spider-Man repeatedly saved Brock from its clutches, or the alien slipped away to come again some other day.
Once again, Venom is slotted to release October 5, 2018. Which storyline do you think Venom will take? Are we going to see Spider-Man at all? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
