During a recent interview with That Hashtag Show, director Matthew Vaughn shed some light on the overall Kingsman universe. But perhaps more importantly, we finally have some Kingsman 3 details to chew on.
Vaughn directed both Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle based upon scripts he wrote up with his partner, Jane Goldman. The duo are currently hard at work behind the scenes on Kingsman 3. Still untitled, the movie is scheduled to begin filming in the UK in January.
Matthew stated during the interview that Kingsman 3 is likely to be the film in the franchise that connects the series to a broader universe. We saw a bit of this within Kingsman 2 during its flashback sequences. But our new Kingsman 3 details from Vaughn suggests that the third film will directly connect to the prequel that’s in the works as well.
Vaughn told That Hashtag Show that he hoped to be able to film the third movie and the prequel, titled Kingsman: The Great Game, back to back. The Great Game is set in the early 1900s and will tell the story of the formation of the spy agency.
The movie will feature a character named Conrad who is described as a “young, cocky and charming son of a British Duke.” Conrad is “eager to find a way to serve his country during World War I…and perhaps the Kingsman offer him just that opportunity.” It’s likely that Conrad will also be cast with an older actor to mark the character’s debut within Kingsman 3.
Outside of these Kingsman 3 details, Vaughn has confirmed in the past that a spin-off featuring the Statesmen from Kingsman 2 is still in early development. And there is also an 8 episode television series that is in the works as well.
While we don’t have a ton in the way of Kingsman 3 details, we do know that 20th Century Fox is obviously bullish on the property. With two successful films in the bag and potentially 3 more on the horizon, we certainly have a lot of Kingsman ahead of us in the future.
