Like the comics, the show will follow two teenagers from completely different backgrounds. While falling in love, the two awaken to newly acquired powers. Tandy Bowen can emit daggers made of pure light while Tyrone Johnson can engulf others into complete darkness. It doesn’t take long for them to figure out that their powers work better together than apart.
According to Variety, the show will be targeting young adult viewers. With Freeform (formerly known as ABC family) focused on the same audience, they choice makes sense.
This will mark the first superhero show for the channel. Having just recently ventured into the fantasy realm with its relatively new show Shadowhunters, it is nice to see the channel expanding its reach.
More From Nerd Much?:
With sister network ABC housing other Marvel shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Agent Carter, we hope for the best from Freeform. Because of the lower ratings standards for the smaller network, the choice is a smart one. ABC has been struggling to hit the rating threshold for Agent Carter despite critical praise.
Our only fear is that Cloak and Dagger doesn’t get the budget it needs and deserves. It is expensive to accurately portray superheroes and their powers. Even CW, with their higher budget for shows like Arrow and The Flash sometimes struggle. Only time will tell before we can make any judgments.
