Watch Dogs 2 will be changing the Ubisoft open-world formula. This time, say goodbye to those map-unlocking towers that always seem to show up.
Map-unlocking towers have been showing up in Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and more. Even the first Watch Dogs used them to open more of Chicago. However, Watch Dogs 2 will be moving away from this pattern. Speaking with Eurogamer, creative director Jonathan Morin explained this change.
“It’s not a game where you open your map and everything’s there,” says Morin. “There are no towers. You just explore the world.”

This sounds like a great change of pace for Ubisoft. While we have enjoyed the tower mechanic in the past, the pattern has become a tad stale after being re-used again and again. Ubisoft is adjusting their previous tactics, and that excites us.
Watch Dogs 2 had an impressive showing at E3 2016. Gone is the bland and brooding main character of the first game. Instead, the game stars a fun, energetic character. We hope that his story continues to innovate on what could be a truly great series.
