The Isle of Dogs cast was announced today by Wes Anderson himself. This will be the second major stop-motion film of his career after Fantastic Mr. Fox.
In the video, the Isle of Dogs cast was shown off in its entirety. The list is full of notable actors including Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, F. Murray Abraham, Tilda Swinton, Kunichi Nomura, Harvey Keitel, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Yoko Ono, Courtney B. Vance, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban, and Liev Schrieber.
We also got a ridiculously small taste of Edward Norton’s character, Rex. But as Norton puts it, “With no line, that really could have been anybody.” The back and forth dialogue between Norton and Anderson is a great example of the dry humor that makes his films so enjoyable.
Of course, there is a lot of work still to be done. Stop-motion animation is a lot of work, but it’s such a satisfying pay-off when it all comes together.
In the meantime, Anderson has also set up a charity campaign through Crowdrise to help the Film Foundation. This non-profit founded by Martin Scorsese was established to preserve film for the future. By donating $10, you’ll be entered into a raffle. The winner earns a trip for two to London to meet Anderson and tour the set of Isle of Dogs. They will also voice a dog in the movie.
Wes Anderson is a master in the movie industry. The Isle of Dogs cast is a perfect example of how eager actors are to work with him. This passion shows in the final product, and that’s what gets us excited too. Now if we could only get a release date.
