Netflix announced back in July of 2016 that they were developing new episodes of their hit series Making a Murderer. Dubbed Making a Murderer Part 2, the sequel installment will “provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.”

Making a Murderer Part 2 will feature 10 new episodes. The new installments take the series “back inside the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery, and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, as their respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the State fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld.”
Creators, directors, and executive producers of the documentary, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, return to helm the series. The majority of Making a Murderer Part 2 will follow Avery’s post-conviction lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, as she attempts to prove to the legal system that her client was falsely convicted. Part 2 will also follow Dassey’s post-conviction lawyers in Laura Nirider and Steven Drizin of Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth, as they too seek to prove that Dassey’s confession was involuntary.
Here is Ricciardi and Demos’ description of what’s to come in Making a Murderer Part 2:
“Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”
The showrunners confirmed that in Part 2 “Steven and Brendan, their families, and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice.” We’ll see how the story plays out when Making a Murderer Part 2 begins streaming on Netflix October 19th.
