Those of us who are unable to travel to London to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child received some good news today from Pottermore. Following the opening of the play in London’s West End this July, the Special Rehearsal Edition of the book will be published and available for purchase, so fans across the world can enjoy the story even if they can’t be present for the performance. We are overjoyed to hear it, as it would have been massively unfair to keep the story from fans that can’t afford tickets or travel.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place immediately following the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in which we see Harry sending his children off to Hogwarts from Platform 9 3/4, ninteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts. The play will be split into two parts because of ‘the epic nature of the story’.
According to Pottermore, the Special Rehearsal Edition of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I&II will be published in both print and digital forms simultaneously, virtually serving as the 8th Harry Potter book. As the play opens for previews several weeks before the official opening date, this will be the version of the script available at the time; later on, it will be replaced with the Definitive Collector’s Edition. Stay tuned for more information regarding this edition.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens on July 30th of this year, and the Special Rehearsal Edition will release the following day, July 31st. You can preorder it on Amazon now for $14.99.Pre-order it here.
