A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is no longer only a pre-order bonus and can be downloaded for free on both the PS4 and Xbox One at the PlayStation Store and Xbox Game Store.
The announcement trailer shows that the game is not the usual high-fidelity graphics we might be used to in a Final Fantasy game, but an 8-bit hack n’ slash sidescrolling adventure. A King’s Tale is set 30 years before the events of the most recent Final Fantasy XV and features “a fast-paced combat system with influences from modern gaming.
The in-depth combat system blends intense attacks, devastating magic, mighty summons and unique companion attacks into a singular gaming experience through three diverse locations in the world of Final Fantasy XV.”
As to what the game has to do with a king, the trailer shows that King Regis is telling the story of “fantasy and adventure” that “begins with a peaceful day being disrupted when monsters raid the royal capital, Insomnia.
Young Regis, joined by Weskham, starts his adventure from the royal capital. Eventually, they are joined by friends Cid and Clarus, where they travel to the plains of Duscae only to discover a mysterious cave where their enemy resides.”
