EA has unveiled the first full length reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront II during today’s events at the Star Wars Celebration, and it gave us both confirmation of its release date and a single-player story mode.
We now know that the Battlefront II release date is now set for November 17, 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Secondly, EA confirmed that the upcoming game will include an all-new untold Star Wars story of an elite Stormtrooper named Iden. What’s more, we’re told that you’ll be able to play as both Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren. We also know that the game will span all of the Star Wars eras, including the original trio, the prequels, and the latest trio, starting with The Force Awakens. And, the campaign is set right after the second Death Star explodes.
“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars”, says Mark Thompson, Game Director at Motive Studios. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”
We’re told that the game will have space battles (I mean, of course, right?), and we also know that our new protagonist, Iden, will have her own companion droid. We’ll be interested to see how EA can properly create a good story that will allegedly have such a big scope, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the game took the Battlefield 1 style of storytelling, with smaller, bite-size stories.
EA is also touting a “deep progression and customization system” for the game’s multiplayer. We also have confirmation that we’ll be fighting on Yavin-4, Starkiller Base, and Tatooine at some point.
