Deck13 has announced that after the success of The Surge in May 2017, they are already working on the sequel, The Surge 2. They have a planned release date for 2019 and the game will likely hit the same systems as the first game, the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Deck13 promises that the sequel will have all the iconic aspects of the original, like the limb-targeting system and intense player progression system. With their home-brewed and now upgraded engine, Deck13 plans to build and expand on what the original offered, like combat.

They want it to be “more brutal and tactical than ever,” to expand the limb targeting system, include more weapons, abilities, implants, and drones. All of which is going to amp up the customization of your character and progression system to a thousand, if it was not already robust before.

Deck13 would also like to announce that The Surge 2 will take place in a sprawling city, devastated by the same mega-corporation as in the last game. Or is it? You will have to wait to find out for sure later this year. Deck13 stated that the city is far more ambitious than the factory complex of the last game. There will be far more to explore, collect, and fight than ever before.

For those that may not know, The Surge is a game focused almost entirely on combat. You join CREO, hoping to make a difference in people’s lives. Unfortunately, the next thing you know, you are in a mech suit and you are pretty sure it is not a suit, but a part of you.

There is no time for an existential crisis, however, as you must fight your way through the factory to find out what is going on and to upgrade your suit to something close to unstoppable. If you would like to play it before the second one comes out, it is offered fairly cheaply on the PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Do you think The Surge needed a sequel? What do you hope they will improve in the new one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
