If you’ve been dragging your feet for nearly a year and a half at this point, you’re fresh out of excuses. Blizzard has declared that Overwatch shall be free for (almost) all to play next weekend. And we’re not talking about some demo or gimped version either.
The über popular first-person shooter will be unlocking its content for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players from Friday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Pacific through Monday, September 25th. There is no region exclusivity for the promotion. Overwatch will be to download on Xbox One and PlayStation 4wherever it’s readily available. On PC though the free play weekend is only available in the Americas, Europe and Asia regions – excluding Korea. You will however be required to have a Battle.net account on PC, PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4, and Xbox Live Gold on Xbox One to access the game.
We’re talking all access here. Players will have full reigns to explore the game’s roster of 25 heroes. You can take them across any of the shooter’s 16 maps. And experience a variety of different modes. Quick Play, Custom Games and Arcade matches are all available. As well as their Assault, Escort, Assault/Escort Hybrid, and Control game variants.
As the new Overwatch players progress throughout the weekend, they too will have access to the games various Loot Boxes and unlockable customization features. Should you dive in and happen to find out that you’ve quickly become an Overwatch fanboy, you can purchase the game and carry with you any progress you’ve earned throughout the free play weekend.
With Overwatch releasing back in May of 2016, yet still experiencing profound success, now seems like a perfect time to attempt to draw in gamers that have yet to give the game a chance. It’s been a dominant force in both the sales department and in sheer player number concurrently playing. That number is likely to hike higher next weekend, and due to Overwatch‘s competitive nature, keep those that dip their toes in the water coming back for more.
