According to MGM Inc, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and Gary Barber, the sequel to Spectre or just another James Bond movie, whatever the case it is the 25th in the series and will be arriving come November 8, 2019. This is the date for US theaters, with an earlier date coming for the UK and the rest of the world for traditions’ sake.
This next James Bond film will be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have been writing for the entire Daniel Craig series. Including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. the producers, as you might have guessed, will be the aforementioned Wilson and Broccoli.
The producers have not announced any other details than the release date, however, so we don’t know who the director will be or if Daniel Craig will be cast in this one as well. It’s certainly likely, since the same writing team is on board, but it is also entirely possible that Craig will have stepped down from his role as James Bond. Which leaves the question as to who will be the next Bond and what kind of movie it will be. The Craig series certainly brought a much darker and serious tone to the series, as compared to Sean Connery’s tongue-in-cheek films, or Pierce Brosnan’s smooth-talking silliness.
I certainly wouldn’t mind either way, I have loved the series too dearly to really mind which way they decide to go. If it gets darker, like some kind of Dark Knight version, there are plenty of graceful ways to handle the situation. Besides, if nothing else, we can count on most James Bond films for having great cinematography. Though I suppose nothing gets better than the shark scene in The Spy That Loved Me with Roger Moore. And if I really want that silliness back, I can either watch Goldfinger again, or even the new Kingsman that’s coming out soon.
Who do you think should play the next James Bond? Do you think it will be Craig again? Where will they take the story? Let us know in the comments below!
