Yesterday, 20th Century Fox (and Disney) released the final trailer for Dark Phoenix. It looks pretty good! But within that same article we joked that “we’ll believe it when we see it” in terms of New Mutants’ release. Low and behold, we’ve got a real Nostradamus over here, as a fresh report suggest another New Mutants delay – this time indefinitely.
It’s iHorror.com that claims to have sources suggesting an additional New Mutants delay. The project began filming in July 2017 and set an original release of April 13, 2018. It was later pushed back to a new release date of February 22, 2019.
That launch wouldn’t come to fruition either, as Fox delayed the film once again to August 2, 2019. But now, with news of yet another New Mutants delay, that date is no longer valid either.
iHorror’s source claims that New Mutants “is being moved because of the Disney-Fox merger.” Their sourcer further explains that “they want to wait until the merger is completed before they make decisions about the release of certain films, including The New Mutants.”
That certainly doesn’t sound like it bodes well for the project. Fox has reportedly been demanding reshoots for the film, which have yet to occur for one reason or another. The movie features a pretty strong cast in Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. But something about the Josh Boone directed flick just isn’t coming together properly.
As for when the movie actually will hit theaters, iHorror’s source isn’t certain, “The new release date will be far away from August. Nothing else is known at this point.”
