FXX has announced that Donald and Stephen Glover will be executive producing an untitled Deadpool animated series. It will premiere in 2018 for about 10 episodes for the first season, and is described as an “adult action-comedy.” Donald is known best as an actor, especially for his role in Community, however he has produced a few Atlanta episodes and quite a number of shorts. His brother Stephen wrote for Atlanta, but that seems to be all that is on his filmography.
The show will also include producers Jeph Loeb (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Jim Chory, (Heroes). Nonetheless, Donald Glover remains the star producer, as co-president of FX Networks Nick Grad states that Glover is “incredibly gifted and versatile” who will bring a Deadpool animated series “to life with the same intense, singular vision” that heralded his Atlanta series.
There are no more details yet, of either plot or casting. However, an animated Deadpool series certainly sounds like a lot of fun, and something that might have the ability to be more slow and fleshed out than the movies, depending on how each is handled. It would be cool to see where in the timeline they pick up the story, especially if there is plenty of Spider-Man and Deadpool interactions. Those two make for some of the best banter in the Marvel series, as it’s usually somewhere between flirting and mutual respect.
