We’re creeping ever closer to the premiere of Marvel’s next MCU television series, Cloak & Dagger. Now just over five weeks away, we’re being treated to what is likely the show’s final trailer before it debuts in June.
The story revolves around two teenagers, Tyrone Jackson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (Dagger). In the comics, the duo were experimented upon with an new synthetic form of heroin. While it killed many other teens in which it was tested on, it imbued Ty and Tandy with superhuman abilities. It’s highly unlikely their origin story will remain similar to that of the comic’s. The series’ home is on the family friendly Freeform network.
Bowen inherited the ability to create light daggers following her ordeal. Jackson gained the ability to utilize the Darkforce as a weapon. The Darkforce is a dimension which fuels Cloak’s dark powers within the show. It has been previously established in episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. The tandem, whose powers are more effective when working together, begin an assault on the drug trade upon forming the duo of Cloak & Dagger.
The show was created by Joe Pokaski. Pokaski wrote the first episode of the series entitled “First Light”. Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the premiere. The first season will consist of ten episodes.
Cloak & Dagger is produced by ABC Signature Studios in conjunction with Marvel Television. The series will begin airing exclusively on ABC’s Freeform network as of June 7th. The channel was previously known as ABC Family from 2001 through 2016.
It’s hard to tell at this point whether Cloak & Dagger is a show worth getting excited about. The last MCU show to debut was Runaways on Hulu. It fared pretty well critically after its November launch. But on the other side of the coin is Inhumans, which – well let’s just forget about Inhumans…
