Marvel and Netflix took San Diego Comic-Con as an opportunity to begin the hype train for Iron Fist Season 2. The duo dropped a teaser trailer for the next installment and announced when the episodes will release on the streaming service.
Today’s new trailer really didn’t provide anything of substance. It starts with Danny Rand giving a cliché monologue saying that “a war is brewing” and that “this is my city now” and “it’s my duty to protect it.” We then cut to Rand walking down an ally as a couple of thugs are mugging a citizen.
Danny handles them easily one by one, as the Iron Fist should. These generic thugs keep coming back though, so Rand finishes the trailer with his fist glowing as he slams it in into the ground to dispatch them for good in a “Hulk Smash!” sort of fashion.
The Iron Fist Season 2 trailer really didn’t provide anything of significance, so hopefully Marvel and Netflix deliver something to truly get us hyped sometime over the next month and a half leading up to the second season’s release. The first season of Iron Fist was heavily panned by critics, scoring an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Things have changed behind the scenes though. Scott Buck was the show runner on Season 1, but he departed to go handle Marvel’s Inhumans series. We all saw how that turned out. Raven Metzner is now manning the ship, so hopefully some new blood will steer the series in a better direction.
Iron Fist Season 2 will bring in Alice Eve as Mary Walker/Typhoid Mary, and Simone Missick will jump over from Luke Cage as Misty Knight. Much Season 1’s cast returns alongside Finn Jones’ Danny Rand, including Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup’s Joy Meachum, and Sacha Dhawan is again playing Davos.
We don’t have long to wait before seeing where Danny Rand picks up following The Defenders. Iron Fist Season 2 is poised to premiere on Netflix September 7th.
